According to ZiMoja, in a shocking turn of events, former Banyana Banyana captain Portia Modise was hijacked at gunpoint outside her home in White City, Soweto, on Saturday evening. Modise, renowned as the top goal scorer for Banyana Banyana with 100 goals, found herself in a terrifying situation that no amount of skill could evade.
The ordeal began as Modise was driving out of her yard and encountered five males blocking her gate. When she asked them to move, they drew firearms and demanded her car. Faced with the threat of violence, Modise made the brave decision to surrender her blue Volkswagen Polo Golf 5. Remarkably, she escaped physically unharmed, though deeply shaken by the experience.
In a heartfelt video posted on Facebook, Modise recounted the harrowing incident, appealing to the community for help in recovering her vehicle. “Yesterday, when I got home, there were guys at my gate who hijacked me; they were young boys. I am not okay. I couldn’t sleep. I need my car back. I need help from you guys to find my car,” she implored.
Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that the police have launched a manhunt for the five suspects. “Police are on the lookout for the suspects and car after the former Banyana Banyana soccer player was hijacked in White City, Soweto, on Saturday evening,” he stated.
According to Masondo, the suspects initially blocked Modise’s gate before brandishing firearms and hijacking her. Two of them drove off with her VW Golf 5, while the other three fled in a VW Silver Polo. In addition to her car, the hijackers also took her cellphone. Fortunately, no shots were fired during the incident.
