In February, Shoes spent close to a month in Johannesburg’s Charlotte Maxeke Hospital. He was later discharged and it was reported that he was doing well.

Shoes’ career started at Giant Blackpool, before joining Kaizer Chiefs in 1993.

The midfielder went on to play for a number of clubs in Turkey, including Genclerbirligi, Fenerbahce and Bursaspor. He was part of the national team when it won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1996.
