Former Afternoon Express presenter Thabiso Makhubela is embracing a new chapter after being released from prison, where he served time following a shoplifting incident last year. Reported by ZiMoja, the former GQ Best Dressed winner, whose career took a sharp downturn when he was allegedly caught with cocaine on set, is now focused on rebuilding his life.

Makhubela, who was released about a week ago, wasted no time in sharing his newfound freedom with his Facebook friends. In a candid post, he expressed his relief and optimism: “Bathong boMeiskat! Happy Tuesday. I haven’t been here for some time, took some time to clear my mind. I’m back now, please inbox if you’ve been trying to reach out.”

A source close to Makhubela revealed that he has since checked himself into a hospital in Hammanskraal, just outside of Tshwane, where he’s been receiving care for anxiety and insomnia. “He is on the right track. He wanted to make sure that doesn’t get triggered again. There is a lot he is going through and he needs to fix before he is out there,”

The ordeal has clearly left its mark on Makhubela, who is still coming to terms with the events that led to his imprisonment. Despite the challenges, the source believes the media personality is making positive strides. “Look, this industry is not kind to anyone. He has made mistakes and has learnt from them. He’s changing for the better and accepted his past mistakes.”
