Flamboyant Businessman Hamilton Ndlovu Assets Reportedly Frozen Over PPE Funds Implication. Affluent businessman Hamilton Ndlovu is a known local millionaire businessman with more than 5 companies. What he is also known for is flexing his wealth on social media, which has gotten him in trouble with the law in the past. Ndlovu’s wealth seems to have landed him in water again and this time on account of corruption.
The media is now reporting that Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) have been granted an order to freeze R42-million in assets belonging to Hamilton Ndlovu following his implication in suspicious Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) contracts worth R172-million. According to Enca, eight companies linked to Ndlovu obtained contracts to supply PPE to the NHLS in 2020.
The properties and money are currently pending a review by the SIU and the NHLS to set aside the service transactions and require Ndlovu to pay back the balance.
The National Treasury revealed that a total of R30.7 billion was spent by state institutions between April and November 2020, of which R13 billion was subject to SIU investigations from the 2 500 PPE contracts that were examined. President Cyril Ramaphosa has assured South Africans following investigations into PPE corruption.
This is not the first time that Ndlovu found himself in hot water and got the attention of social media users after buying five luxury cars in May last year valued at over R10.5 million. Ndlovu bought one Lamborghini Urus, three Porsches and a Jeep for himself and his family. After getting the attention of SARS officials, he was then slapped with a R36 million SA Revenue Service bill.
In his ruling, judge Roland Sutherland said Ndlovu was “solely responsible” for Sars taking an interest in his affairs by sharing his fleet on social media for the world to see.
