A fire broke out on the set of the popular soapie Skeem Saam at Sasani Studios in Johannesburg on Monday afternoon, leaving two crew members injured. According to SMag, the public broadcaster SABC confirmed the news to Sowetan, revealing that the two crew members were hospitalized following the incident.
The cause of the fire is currently unclear. “The SABC confirms that a fire occurred at Sasani Studios on the set of SABC 1’s flagship drama, Skeem Saam, resulting in two crew members being injured and hospitalised,” said Mmoni Ngubane, the SABC’s head of communications.
Ngubane also stated that the fire caused damage to sets and equipment, and the full extent of the damage is still being assessed. The Skeem Saam cast, which includes popular actors like Clement Maosa, Hungani Ndlovu, Mogau Motlhatswi, and Africa Tsoai, was not harmed during the incident.
“We are working closely with Peu Communication Solutions and Sasani Studios to evaluate the situation,” Ngubane added. “Our thoughts are with the injured crew members, and we wish them a speedy recovery.”
The Skeem Saam team continues to assess the damage and plans to move forward with production as soon as possible.
