Facts You Might Not Have Know About DJ Sumbody. The entertainment industry unexpectedly lost another great artist this past weekend and Mzansi is still in shock following the tragedy. DJ Sumbody lost his life after his car got shot at multiple times whilst coming from a gig.

As tthe country and his industry peers mourns the talented star, let’s take a look at some facts you might have not about the DJ and pioneer on the SA Music scene.

1. His real name is Oupa John Sefoka. He was born and raised in Pretoria. He went to Sunnyside Primary School and matriculated at Bokgoni Technical High School in Atterigdeville, Pretoria.

2. In 2006, he enrolled at Tshwane University of Technology to further his studies and make his parents dreams come true. He later dropped out of university in his second year to pursue a music career.

3. He supported himself and raised money to buy vinyls by doing morning taxi rounds around taxi ranks in Pretoria.

4. After volunteering for a year as a featured presenter on the Friday breakfast show with DJ Syco and Lee, DJ Sumbody scored his first job at a youth community radio station in Tshwane. He produced and presented his own show called ‘Mashaedi on the Engage’ between 10pm-1am.

5. In 2012, DJ Sumbody released his debut house compilation called ‘Larger Than House: Volume 1’ distributed by Soul Candy and later ‘Larger Than House: Volume 2’. He gained recognition from promoters and got opportunities to DJ at various annual events and the rest is history.

6. He has since released summer anthems and multiple hits including, ‘Monate Mpolaye’ and Ayepyep. He has had TV slots on music channels as a DJ and headlined some of the country’s major music events.

7. Outside of music, DJ Sumbody was a successful entrepreneur. He owned Jamoloto and Son Transport company. He also founded SumSounds Productions which has a partnership with Sony Music.

8. The Pretoria-born DJ co-owns one of Pretoria’s most popular lifestyle lounge chains called Ayepyep Lifestyle with his business partner Kagiso Setsetse. It is a restaurant by day and a club by night.
