The City of Durban reportedly spent R1.7 Million on the Nicki Minaj concert in the city. The money is said to have covered the cost to hire the Moses Mabhida Stadium, outdoor advertising, marketing, infrastructure and logistics.
The Thekwini spokesman Tozi Mthethwa said the tickets were made available to the city as part of the partnership agreement with the event organizers. Reports say the tickets were made available to the city’s 205 Councillors for the Sunday night concert. DA Councillors reportedly refused to accept the free tickets.
“We strongly objected to the city spending R1.7-million on the concert, which was double the cost for the Chris Brown concert, and we even objected to that amount. As a caucus we took a conscious decision not to attend the concert in protest”, said DA’s Heinz de Boer.
The City of Cape Town and Johannesburg municipal leaders confirmed that confirmed that they did not make any financial contribution to Minaj’s performance. The show was organized by private promoters and they paid all the costs of the show.
And it seems the rapper also fell in love with the city of Durban from all the videos she posted on Instagram.
