American tycoon Donald Trump has left many South African social media users fuming with a tweet about the current xenophobic violence raging in the country. The real estate magnate made waves on Twitter on Tuesday, with a brazen statement about what a “mess” SA is.
Tweeted Trump: “As I have long been saying, South Africa is a total – and very dangerous – mess. Just watch the evening news (when not talking weather).”
A barrage of offended Twitter users hit back at ‘The Apprentice’ host, and a few famous SA celebs also commented on this strongly opinionated statement.
While not directly attacking Trump, shock jock Gareth Cliff in response to the tweet wrote: “Ugh. Like the Republican Party Donald?”
And The Juice also spotted an Instagram post from TV personality Minnie Dlamini before she deleted it, which read: “Stick to business, foreign affairs is not your thing Mr Trump. Such an ignorant statement from such a prominent man #soSad.”
This is not the first time 68-year-old Trump has offended South Africans with his online opinion about issues in the country.
He was also strongly criticised for a tweet about Oscar Pistorius after he shot to death his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in 2013.
“Oscar Pistorious, “the blade runner,” is as guilty as O.J. I wonder if the result will be the same?” he tweeted during the incarcerated Paralympian’s much-publicised murder trial.
He also later has criticised Judge Thokozile Masipa for the sentence she handed down to Pistorius by writing: “Oscar Pistorius only gets five years in prison for killing his girlfriend. Ridiculous decision! Judge couldn’t even read her own writings.”
