American singer and rapper Doja Cat, whose real name is Zandile Dlamini, has sparked a social media storm with recent comments about her father, South African actor Dumisani Dlamini. Known for his roles in “Sarafina!” and “Yizo Yizo,” Dumisani has been labeled a “deadbeat” by his famous daughter.
A week ago, Doja Cat updated her bio on X (formerly Twitter) to read: “My dad’s a deadbeat but I did well.” Today, she took to Instagram with a more pointed message, posting: “Dad, lemme know when/if you need me to re-up your makeup cabinet cuz you a b*tch.” She didn’t stop there, tagging her father in another comment: “Dumisani Dlamini, I got Urban Decay, I got Pat McGrath Labs, I got Fenty, I got Scott Barnes, let me know. I got your back sis.”
Doja Cat’s harsh words didn’t go unnoticed. One follower warned her, saying, “You are messing with a wrong one, Zulus don’t play…your ancestors will humble [you].” Doja Cat responded with, “Go give the deadbeat a kiss on the lips for me.” Another follower commented, “That’s so disrespectful….. do it again..” to which Doja Cat replied, “Gave me a lazy eye and dipped,” suggesting that her father left when she was young.
According to TshisaLIVE, Doja Cat has always been vocal about her estranged relationship with her father, stating that she has never met him in person but has seen him comment on her pictures online. Dumisani, in a 2017 interview with TshisaLIVE, explained that after the “Sarafina!” tour, he decided to stay in America, where he had two children, including Doja Cat, with a Jewish-American woman. After 15 years, Dumisani returned to South Africa, claiming he tried but failed to bring his family with him and maintained contact with his children.
“I am close to my children, all of them. I love them and they love me,” Dumisani said, expressing pride in Doja Cat’s global success. He considers his children his legacy. However, Doja Cat’s recent posts suggest a much different reality, implying a strained and distant relationship.
The contrasting narratives from Doja Cat and Dumisani Dlamini raise questions about the true nature of their relationship, with Doja’s public denouncements casting a shadow on her father’s claims of closeness and affection.
