Popular producer and DJ Zandimaz, whose real name is Zandile Mazithulela, is back on the music scene after a two-year hiatus due to a brain tumour. The Emathandweni hitmaker shared her journey of recovery and the challenges of readapting to the music industry.
“It’s been a tough and hectic few months for me. This is a bit challenging as I was out of touch with the industry since I was sick,” Zandimaz told Daily Sun. Despite not being fully recovered, she expressed her gratitude to God for her ongoing restoration.
Zandimaz’s health battle began in 2022 when she suffered a seizure during a performance in the United Kingdom. The incident forced her to step away from the spotlight, but her passion for music has kept her going. “It hasn’t been easy for me, but I enjoy the challenge of being back in the music space,” she said, adding that music is what fuels her spirit.
Her return to music was marked by the release of her single *Bawo* in August, featuring Okana Nkosi, a track inspired by her faith and resilience. “I thought of giving up but remembered that I started this a long time ago,” she said. “Giving up always pops up in my mind. This is not something I’d entertain as I have most of the things I have because of my music career.”
Despite the hurdles she’s faced, Zandimaz is determined to keep pushing forward. “Being back feels amazing for me. I’m not fully recovered, but I love being where I enjoy it,” she shared. Her hope and faith have kept her strong, and she encourages others to keep going, no matter the challenges. “We might be going through a lot, but God is our saviour.”
Looking ahead, Zandimaz plans to release more music, using her art as a means to inspire and uplift. “I’ll be dropping more music that will help people forget about their problems,” she said, adding that she wants her journey to remind people of the importance of never giving up.
