In an exciting crossover between music and fashion, acclaimed influencer and house DJ Oscar Mbo has launched his own clothing brand, “Have A Groovy Day.” Known for his hit song “Yes God,” Oscar Mbo, whose real name is Oscar Mbongeni Ndlovu, shared his journey into fashion in a candid interview with TshisaLIVE.

Driven by a lifelong passion for clothes, the Kriel-born DJ decided to channel his creative energy into fashion. “I have always had a passion for clothes but I wanted to equip myself before I entered the fashion industry, hence my entry is with my own line of merch as I grow more into design. I’m giving myself time to grow over the years and am hoping to have a full line in the near future,” Oscar Mbo explained.

Launched in 2021, the “Have A Groovy Day” brand draws inspiration from Asian fashion aesthetics, characterised by oversized and stylish “swaggy” designs. The collection includes hoodies retailing at R2,999, T-shirts at R1,499, socks for R249, scarves for R899, and caps at R799, all crafted from high-grade materials. “The prices are reasonable, with high-grade materials. Most fashion lovers can easily relate to the brand,” the 33-year-old DJ added.

However, Oscar Mbo’s foray into fashion was not without its challenges. Finding the right partners with expertise in fashion and sourcing high-quality materials proved to be significant hurdles. “Sourcing the right quality material for the line was the biggest challenge. It took years to perfect the mission. We have developed relationships with international suppliers. The brand can be purchased from our online store,” he noted.

Balancing his dual passions for music and fashion, Oscar Mbo recently partnered with The Cosmopolitan in Maboneng for “Uncensored Thursdays.” He explained how he manages both careers seamlessly. “I equipped myself over the years with the information, right team, and resources to venture into the fashion industry. Joining it with my music career was seamless because I intend to market my fashion through my music career. I feel like it is interconnected. Music and fashion have co-existed globally within fashion shows, awards, and events,” he said.

With his innovative approach and dedication, Oscar Mbo is poised to make a significant impact in the fashion industry, much like he has in the music world. As he continues to grow his brand, fans can look forward to more exciting developments from this multifaceted artist.
