South African DJ and fashion lover Doowap is making big moves in Europe. Born in Eswatini and raised in Mzansi, Doowap—real name Khetsiwe Morgan—is taking South Africa’s street culture and music to Germany and France on her current tour, which started in early June and ends later this month.
She’s already brought fire to Berlin, where she was part of the famous Carnival of Cultures. She kicked things off at a pre-party at a new venue called MAAYA, during a lively Freak De L’Afrique event.
“The event had three dancefloors and showcased talent from across the African continent. It was completely sold out, and the love for the sounds coming out of South Africa was exhilarating. I played a DJ set blending Amapiano, Bacardi, and Gqom, and the response was electric,” said Doowap.
The next day, she performed to a jaw-dropping crowd of 700,000 people—her biggest audience yet.
“There are videos circulating online, and I still get goosebumps every time I watch them,” said the Thunda Thighs hitmaker.
Next up, Doowap is heading to Paris where she’ll perform during Fête de la Musique this Saturday and later at Paris Fashion Week.
“I’m putting together a set featuring sounds from South Africa, Nigeria, and some incredible new tracks I’ve discovered while here in Paris. It’s going to be one of those nights where people are dancing, singing, and sweating, exactly the high-octane energy I love to create,” she told The Citizen.
Doowap is no stranger to Europe. For the past seven years, she’s toured cities like Milan, Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona, and even joined Diplo for the Daily Paper party in Paris.
“As someone who’s super into fashion, I always find it inspiring to be surrounded by a creative scene where people from all over the world come together and shift culture forward,” she added.
This year, she’ll perform at the Jerk & Jollof x Places+Faces party on 26 June.
Alongside her tour, Doowap just dropped a new single Seroba Ke She, a song filled with Pretoria’s Bacardi sound—known for its heavy drum and bass.
“Since last year, I’ve been on a serious Bacardi wave – I truly believe it’s our next great sound export after Amapiano and Afrotech,” she said.
To stay true to Bacardi’s roots, Doowap has been working with local Pretoria artists like Enny Man Da Guitar, DJ Mobla, and Nyico Loco, as well as rising stars like C.JayMnandi and Vine Musiq.
“Even though Bacardi is a Pitori sound, it’s a movement that deserves to grow nationally and internationally, and I’m excited to be one of the artists helping to carry it beyond Pretoria while staying true to its origins,” said Doowap.
