Reality show star and DJ, Arthur Junior Mafokate, widely known as DJ AJ, is set to celebrate his 30th birthday in grand style across Gauteng this weekend. The DJ, who has been making waves in the entertainment industry, will kick off his birthday tour on Thursday at Cosmopolitan in Maboneng.
“I’ll be alongside popular acts such as Oscar Mbo, Babalwa M, Vetkoek & Mahoota, and Owami Mafokate,” DJ AJ shared, adding, “I’m excited with my progress in the entertainment industry. I see I’m following in my father’s musical footsteps, and there’s a lot I’m learning from him, but I also have a lot to offer.”
The weekend festivities don’t end there. DJ AJ will be performing at Rockets, Menlyn, on Friday, followed by LIV in Sandton on Saturday, and wrapping up the celebration at Radisson Red in Rosebank on Sunday. Fans can expect more than just a birthday party; the DJ will also be celebrating the success of his family’s reality show Born Into Fame and his latest music projects.
“Over and above this, I’m celebrating the success of Born Into Fame season one, as well as our La Familia EP with my sister Owami,” DJ AJ said. He also revealed an exclusive preview of his upcoming work, “I’ll be performing my new single Tsuku with Peekay Mzee, which drops in November, along with my EP Elements featuring Natasha MD and Pantsula.”
Cosmopolitan manager, Tenny Tshabalala, expressed excitement about hosting the birthday kickoff. “We are happy to be a part of DJ AJ’s birthday celebration. Our club is diverse and attracts many tourists, and being approached by a son of a kwaito legend means a lot to us. It shows we’re on the right path,” Tshabalala said.
In addition to his birthday and music celebration, DJ AJ and his sister Owami are hoping to bring their father, legendary kwaito artist Arthur Mafokate, back into the recording studio. Speaking to TshisaLIVE, DJ AJ shared their plans, “We are trying to work with our father as La Familia is a family project. Since my sister and I have found our sound, we think we are ready to bring him into it. He’s been away from the industry as an artist for a while, but we’re hoping this new EP will motivate him to join us on the next project.”
