Babes Wodumo silenced all her haters when she got a BET nod for Best International Act: Africa. And she has finally shared how she feels about her first international recognition. ‘I didn’t have to speak English to be recognized by BET,’ Babes Wodumo.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, the ‘Wololo’ singer said her nomination is proof that one just needs to produce great music and doesn’t need to speak fluent English.

“I think that this nomination proved to other people that me speaking Zulu has not closed doors but instead opened them for me. I didn’t have to speak English to be recognised by BET,” she said.

“My music and dance leaves people happy, so I will impress them with that. Above that, I am a proud Zulu girl and that won’t change. Look at me now, I may even be chilling next to Rick Ross.”

Babes is the first SA female singer to get the nod.
