Nandipha Magudumana’s attorney, Machini Motloung, is advocating for his client’s relocation to an alternative prison cell after an alleged assault during the weekend. In an interview with eNCA, Motloung disclosed that Magudumana reached out to him to report the assault, indicating she was experiencing pain and had suffered bruises. Presently incarcerated at the Kroonstad Correctional Centre in the Free State, Magudumana allegedly faced an attack by both a traditional healer and a woman with mental health issues.
Singabakho Nxumalo, spokesperson for the Department of Correctional Services, confirmed an ongoing investigation into allegations of assault The incident allegedly occurred during what was described as a prayer meeting in a separate cell from Nandipha’s. Reports suggest that the altercation ensued, including an alleged push against the grills, on Saturday, March 16, 2024.
Nxumalo further elaborated, noting that officials suggested Nandipha pursue a criminal case upon reporting the assault, though she chose to first consult with her legal counsel. “Our healthcare officials examined Nandipha and found no visible injuries,” he added. “The safety and well-being of inmates is a priority, and we take such allegations seriously.”
Highlighting the recurrent nature of such incidents, Nxumalo revealed, “This is not the first time Nandipha has reportedly been assaulted at the correctional facility.” He referenced Nandipha’s previous legal action, stating, “Her lawyer said she filed a case against prison staff in October 2023 after she was allegedly assaulted and mistreated.” Such occurrences underscore the imperative for comprehensive investigations and robust measures to uphold the rights and safety of inmates within correctional facilities.
The accusations against Nandipha appeared to please people on X because they felt that Nandipha deserved it after all of the terrible things she had done and the terrible choices she had made in life.
