Award-winning rapper and producer Leslie ‘Da L.E.S.’ Mampe is on the road to recovery after suffering a stroke in July last year, just a day before his birthday. According to ZiMoja, the rapper has left South Africa and relocated to the United States, where he is receiving care from his mother, Priscillar Mampe, in Washington, D.C.

The All Eyes On Me hitmaker’s stroke affected his mobility, leading to a hospital stay of over a month. After being discharged, he continued his recovery at home in Johannesburg, which was reportedly listed for sale. However, his family decided that relocating to the U.S. would provide him with better care.

A close family friend confirmed to ZiMoja that his mother has been living in Washington, D.C., for years, making the transition easier for him. “Leslie was born in the US; he often visited his mom, so it’s not unfamiliar territory,” the source shared. “His mom took him with her, so she is present in his recovery, and he can get better medical care.”

Before his departure, L-Tido, Cassper Nyovest, and Pastor Kabelo Mabalane visited him to show their support. A friend who was present recalled how Kabelo welcomed them with a heartfelt prayer. “We had a prayer for his recovery; he is doing very well, and we can’t wait to have him up and back in the game again,” the friend said. “He is grateful to be alive, to see another day, and so are we.”

In July 2024, his family released a statement confirming his condition, saying: “Whilst he is in a stable condition, this remains a challenging time for his loved ones, and his family call on the public to keep him in their thoughts and prayers.” They assured fans that updates would be provided as he continues his recovery.

Da L.E.S. remains hopeful and determined, with loved ones by his side as he focuses on his health.
