South African hip hop star Da L.E.S has shared an emotional and powerful story about surviving a serious health scare that nearly took his life. In July 2024, the “Heaven” hitmaker suffered a stroke on his birthday, an unexpected event that changed his life completely.

In a heartfelt video on his YouTube channel, Da L.E.S Network, the rapper opened up about his month-long stay in hospital, his fight to survive, and his road to recovery.

“I suffered a stroke, and people thought I was going to die, but I made it,” he said with deep emotion, describing the moment he finally woke up after being in hospital for weeks.

The rapper said the experience showed him how quickly life can change. “People right now want to know what’s wrong with me? Well, I want to help people because sh#t is real, sh#t can happen to anybody. One minute you’re cool, you’re like me, the next you experience the worst,” he explained.

Da L.E.S said that although his life has changed, he believes it’s not the end of his journey. “I feel like my life has changed, but it ain’t the end. This is bigger than me and I’ve got to do this. I just want to document my life.”

He shared that the stroke was something he couldn’t have seen coming. “What happened was, I had a stroke. It was on my birthday. When sh** like this happens, it’s nothing you can control. I’m just lucky to be alive,” he said.

Despite the tough journey, the artist said he feels grateful. “I feel good. I’m so happy that I’m still here. The whole purpose of me filming is to let y’all in my life the real way, also just to inspire, you know.”

The video includes real moments of his recovery, including time in the hospital, at home with his family, and clips of him learning to walk again through physiotherapy.

Fans and fellow celebrities showed love and support in the comments.

The L-Tido Network wrote, “Real brave and courageous to let people get an insight of your recovery. God bless you.”

Major League DJs said, “You so strong brother. May God continue to bless you.”

Nadia Nakai TV added, “Your spirit is powerful!!! Speedy recovery!”
