The entertainment world is mourning the loss of award-winning comedian and actor Ebenhaezer Dibakwane, who passed away on the 7th of March 2025 at the age of 31. His manager, Tabitha Hoy, confirmed the news to News24, although the cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
“A friend to many, he will be remembered for his off-the-wall humour, original style of stand-up comedy, and the joy he brought to audiences across South Africa,” Hoy said in a heartfelt press statement. “To know Ebenhaezer was to love him, and he’ll be sorely missed.”
Ebenhaezer’s untimely passing has left a deep void in the South African entertainment industry, as he was known for his unique comedic voice and ability to make people laugh in every corner of the country. His agency, Pickledginger Entertainment, also paid tribute to him, calling him a “celebrated comedian, actor, and writer.” They described him as a true friend to many, emphasising his remarkable talent and distinctive comedic style. “He will be remembered for his off-the-wall humour, original style of stand-up comedy,” the agency’s statement read.
The Dibakwane family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support and assured the public that further details about the memorial and funeral service would be shared in due time.
Born in 1994, Ebenhaezer made his mark in the entertainment scene in 2016 when he won the Savanna Comics’ Choice Award for Newcomer of the Year. His career continued to soar, earning him a second Comics’ Choice Award in 2017 in the Intermediate category, followed by a nomination for Breakthrough Comedian of the Year in 2018. Beyond comedy, his writing talents were recognised with a nomination at the South African Film and TV Awards.
Ebenhaezer’s versatility also saw him take on acting roles in popular shows such as Catching Feelings, MTV Shuga Downsouth, and even the dance competition Dancing with the Stars South Africa. His death leaves a huge loss to both the comedy and entertainment industries, but his legacy will live on in his work and the laughter he gave to many.
