Chidimma Adetshina made history on Saturday, November 16, in Mexico, where she was crowned Miss Universe Africa and Oceania during the 73rd edition of Miss Universe. She also achieved the incredible feat of being the first runner-up, marking a proud moment for Nigeria as she became the first Nigerian to place in the top five of the prestigious beauty pageant.

Adetshina took to social media to share the exciting news with her fans. “Not just the 1st runner-up of #MissUniverse2024 but also Miss Universe Africa and Oceania,” she posted, celebrating her dual achievements.

According to Times Live, during the final question for the top five contestants, which included representatives from Thailand, Mexico, and Venezuela, the ladies were asked to share a message of inspiration for aspiring contestants. Adetshina’s heartfelt response captivated the audience.

“I wanted to be a symbol of hope and a beacon of faith,” she said. “As someone who has persevered with grace, I believe I have fought for not only myself but for Africa.”

Adetshina opened up about her challenging journey in an emotional Instagram post. “Many wonder why I didn’t stop. Many asked, ‘Why not let it be for now? Your life might be at risk.’ Some questioned, ‘Why isn’t she giving up? Does she crave the clout?’”

Reflecting on her perseverance, she added, “My dreams have kept me afloat. To my dearest Nigerians, with open arms, you carried me on wheels made of the purest love and intentions. I still cannot fully comprehend the reasons, but what matters most is that you’ve given me a second chance at life.”
