Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, a top contender in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, has touched down in Nigeria, signaling a pivotal moment in her quest for the crown. In a recent Instagram post, she shared a photo of herself in a car, holding a bouquet of pink roses and balloons, simply captioning it, “Hello Nigeria.”
Since accepting the invitation to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria, Adetshina has been on a remarkable journey. Representing Taraba, a state named after the Taraba River, she currently leads the voting polls with 13,284 votes. Her goal is clear—to win the crown—and with her strong performance so far, that dream looks within reach.
In a video capturing her arrival, the 23-year-old was seen dressed in a chic blue suit dress that radiated confidence and elegance. During an interview, she shared her excitement about reconnecting with her roots, saying, “I’m just really excited that I’m in my father’s land, and I want to get to experience more about it. It’s been 20 years since I’ve been here, so I just want to know more about Nigeria’s culture and where I really come from.” She added, “My goal is obviously to win the crown for Miss Universe Nigeria.”
Adetshina also spoke about her desire to use her platform to inspire unity and celebrate diversity. “As a woman who has obviously faced adversity, I want to use my story to bring people together. I want us to value diversity and celebrate our differences—in that way, we can build a stronger community that benefits everybody,” she said.
According to IOL News, while Adetshina’s return to Nigeria has been met with warm welcomes, there is an ongoing investigation by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs into her background. This week, officials confirmed that a preliminary report revealed evidence suggesting her mother may have committed identity fraud in 2001. The investigation, which involves the Directorate of Priority Crimes Investigation (the Hawks), has identified the officials responsible for recording Adetshina’s birth, one of whom has since passed away. The probe continues.
Despite the controversy, Adetshina’s supporters remain steadfast. The comment section is filled with heartwarming messages from followers celebrating her return to Nigeria. However, some are curious about how she managed to travel to her father’s homeland while her passport is still under scrutiny in South Africa.
