Two And Half Men’s Charlie Sheen has come out to share his HIV status with the world.
Speaking on NBC’s “Today” show he shares that he was diagnosed about four years ago and the only reason he has decided to disclose this information is because he was being blackmailed.
“I am here to admit that I am in fact HIV positive,” Sheen said, saying he was “not entirely sure” how he acquired the virus.
“It’s a hard three letters to absorb,” he added.
As we can all recall Charlie played the role of Charlie Harper on Two And A Half Men for over 8 years before he was fired in 2011 for bad behaviour that included substance abuse and excessive partying with porn stars and a conviction for assaulting his ex-wife.
At the time of his booming career Charlie was the highest paid actor on American television with an annual salary of some $1.8 million.
When he was asked if he has infected anyone with the disease on Tuesday, he answered with; “Impossible.” Stating that he had “always led with condoms and honesty when it came to my condition.”
He goes on to add that he came out with his status because a number of people were extorting him, and that the amount of money he was paying people for their silence is now in the millions of dollars.
“What people forget is this is money, money they are taking from my children,” speaking about his 5 kids and grandchildren.
“I thought they could be helpful. Instead, my trust turned into their treason,” adding that he is done paying people for their silence.
“I think I released myself from this prison today,” he said.
