Amapiano sensation Scotts Maphuma has issued a public apology after facing heavy criticism over his recent behavior and alleged “bad attitude.” The 29-year-old musician, whose real name is Mpho Lebajoa, took to social media to address the controversy, admitting his mistakes and promising to change.
In a heartfelt post, Scotts wrote: “To my fans and supporters, I want to sincerely apologize for my recent actions and words which disrespected and disappointed many of you. I lost perspective and take full responsibility. This has been a wake-up call. I now understand the importance of staying grounded and connected to those who make the journey possible.”
“ I’m committed to learning, growing, and regaining your trust through my actions. Thank you for everyone who held me accountable. I hear you, and I will do better.”
His apology came after widespread backlash from fans and event organisers, with one major venue, Vogue Lounge, deciding to remove him from their entertainment line-up. The venue stated:
“As a brand that stands for community, respect, and inclusivity, we do not take your voices lightly. After careful consideration and with full respect for the sentiments expressed by our loyal guests, we have made the decision to withdraw Scotts Maphuma from our entertainment line-up.”
Scotts responded by accusing the venue of using his name for publicity, saying: “I told them, they just want to trend using my name. My real fans have forgiven me. We are moving on, and don’t worry—I’ll make it easier for you. I’ll never set foot in your venue. Thank you.”
Despite the drama, some of South Africa’s biggest celebrities came to Scotts’ defense, offering him support and understanding.
International award-winning singer Makhadzi, who has previously collaborated with him, said:
“At some point, I felt like apologising on Scotts Maphuma’s behalf because I realised he was just excited and forgot about the people who streamed his music, including me. I’m his fan, but I was disappointed. I’m glad he came back to his senses. We love him.”
She added, “The truth is, we are nothing without you guys. I remember owing SARS R6 million and having nothing, but through your support I managed to make peace with government. Thank you for voting for me to win Artist of the Year at the MMAs. I managed because of your votes.”
