soaring cost of electricity in Johannesburg. He tweeted, “Guys, does the price of electricity change? Last week I bought R3000 worth of electricity and got 900 units. Today, R3000 only gave me 750 units. What’s crazy is that R3000 worth of electricity lasts a week in my house, with the geysers off and everything. Life in JHB IS CRAZY.”

A follower responded with advice, suggesting, “So your average spend is R12000 per month on electricity. With that amount, I would undoubtedly get a Grid Interactive Solar System: Grid-Tie with Lead Acid Battery Backup… We have a free source of electricity (Sun), which just requires a few thousands to set up and enjoy and be free from paying exorbitant fees to buy electricity every week, month, year.”

Cassper replied, “I have a full solar setup too, so I don’t experience load shedding. But still, electricity in this country has become too expensive. 12k a month on electricity is madness, man… it used to be 18k a month before I moved to prepaid. This is scary. What’s gonna happen in 5 years?”

Other Twitter users chimed in, supporting his statement about the high cost of living in South Africa. One noted, “Prepaid seems to be worse than when city power bills you. Someone here also complains that he’s spending R5800 weekly on electricity when most appliances are off. Others are complaining about being billed R40K a month for electricity when they’re barely home. The cost of living is scary.”

Another commented, “That time I’m buying groceries for R1500 a month while Cassper is spending R3000 on electricity every week. Life is not fair…”

Cassper’s tweet has sparked a broader conversation about the rising costs of utilities and the general cost of living in Johannesburg, highlighting the financial pressures many residents face.
