Cassper Nyovest is facing criticism on social media after his heated response to a fan who criticised his latest track, “Kusho Bani.” Instead of engaging with the critique, the rapper took aim at the woman’s appearance, which has sparked a wave of debate online.
The controversy began when Twitter user @lisakhat tweeted, “Imbi la ngoma ka Csspr shame” (This song by Cassper is ugly, shame). She later defended her opinion, stating, “Eyoba I hate him ndiyiva ngani. I’m allowed to dislike songs, even if it’s from artists I like unfortunately.”
Cassper, known for his bold personality, fired back with a personal insult, tweeting, “Okay but did they post you on Valentine’s Day or not? Judging from di-picture, ha o spec!!!” (Judging from your pictures, you are not a spec). This response raised eyebrows, with many fans questioning why he would attack her looks instead of addressing her opinion about the song.
The user, unbothered by the remark, replied, “Out of interest neh, what does that have to do with ANYTHING?” But Cassper doubled down, tweeting, “Hao guys Kante are you guys the only 1s allowed to troll, pass judgement and talk smack about us? If you say my song is rubbish and it’s the most Shazammed song in the country, someone is lying. So le nna I can also say O MO BE!!! Whether you actually are or not. Fair game!”
The situation took another turn when X user @reaschwarz weighed in, suggesting that Cassper’s response hinted at deeper issues. “Problem ka wena is that you underlyingly have an issue with women that aren’t light-skinned. You’ve expressed it within your lyricism from time to time. It’s low-key a reflection of low self-esteem as a black man, respectfully.”
Another user, @MduduziMats, disagreed with Cassper, saying, “Nah, I disagree with you on that one. She is a spec, also she has a right to voice her opinion on what she likes and doesn’t like. It doesn’t mean she hates you as an artist.”
@Ro_henny also commented, “You know she’s right. You’re too old to be coming at her like this.”
Cassper, acknowledging the backlash, tweeted later: “Hai Kante. I’m not allowed to troll back or judge when y’all pass judgment? Is it fun for you guys only in twitter? Okay I’m sorry them. Lemme stay in my place.”
While some defended the rapper, like @Zoe16111, who said, “But he also shared his opinion moss y’all have double standards tjo just cause he’s a celebrity doesn’t mean he has no emotions,” many fans continue to criticise his approach.
Despite the controversy, “Kusho Bani” has been a major success. According to IOL, the track has gone viral on TikTok, inspiring trending dance challenges. It recently reached Number 4 on South African radio charts and is currently the most Shazammed song in the country, proving that Cassper’s music continues to make a major impact.
