Multi-award-winning rapper Cassper Nyovest recently paid tribute to the late Victor “Doc Shebeleza” Bogopane, who passed away after a long illness. Cassper, known for his heartfelt music and admiration of industry legends, shared a message on his social media, remembering how Doc Shebeleza deeply impacted his life.

“RIP to a true legend. A great wise man. Changed my life forever. Not only did he change my life, but he poured a lot of wisdom into it. Thank you, grootman,” Cassper wrote, reflecting on the influence Doc had on him. He followed up with another emotional post: “Eish, life is mad short.”

Doc Shebeleza, a revered figure in South African music, had a profound effect on many artists. Another rapper who was influenced by Doc was Thato Lloyd Madonsela, known as L’Tido. He also honoured the late legend on X (formerly Twitter), recalling a special moment when he sampled Doc’s hit song Ghets Ghetsa for his own track Steve Kekana.

“RIP Doc Shebeleza. He was a real Grootman. In 2014 I sampled Ghets Ghetsa for my song Steve Kekana. He cleared the sample for me, without taking a percentage or charging me. That’s unheard of in the music industry! Condolences to his family,” L’Tido wrote, emphasising the generosity Doc showed him.
