For the first time, The Earthshot Prize Awards is coming to Africa, taking place in Cape Town on Wednesday, 6 November. This prestigious event, dedicated to celebrating groundbreaking environmental solutions, will honour fifteen finalists with five winners each awarded £1 million (R23.8 million) to expand their projects.
The festivities kick off a day earlier on Tuesday, 5 November, with Earthshot+, a day of discussions designed to amplify the impact of this year’s finalists. Through a partnership with MultiChoice, African Youth Creators will have the chance to showcase solutions from the continent, shining a light on the innovators leading the way.
The Awards night will be hosted by Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award winner Billy Porter and South African star Bonang Matheba. Reflecting on the event, Porter shared, “Life is a gift, and how we treat each other and our planet matters. I can’t wait to see you in Cape Town.” Matheba echoed his excitement, saying, “So excited. See you then!”
The event promises a star-studded lineup with presenters including actress and activist Nomzamo Mbatha, model Winnie Harlow, and more. South African talents will also take center stage, with performances from DJ Uncle Waffles, composer Lebo M, and the Ndlovu Youth Choir.
For those tuning in, the Green Carpet pre-show will be livestreamed on YouTube, hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and Nomuzi Mabena. The Awards show will air across Africa on MultiChoice platforms, DStv & Showmax, and be livestreamed globally on YouTube.
