For Caiiro, the Afro-house and tech DJ, winning a MetroFM Music Award this May would be a dream come true. Speaking to Sowetan S Magazine, Caiiro, whose real name is Patrick Dumisani Mahlangu, is already celebrating his success after his chart-topping hit “Ndisize,” featuring Ami Faku, earned him multiple nominations. “Ndisize” is up for Best Dance Song, Best Music Video, and Song of the Year at the upcoming awards.

“For me, I’d say, a nomination is good enough. It’s actually a good step in the right direction, especially when recognition is concerned. It simply says, ‘you’re doing great and we see you,’” Caiiro shared. His song’s success has been a major turning point in his career, marking his breakthrough into the commercial market.

He explained the uniqueness of “Ndisize,” saying, “Music for me is an art form, I take time in the studio to cook these songs. I love making simple music, that’s why most of my previous songs were listened to by a specific market. But ‘Ndisize’ is different; it speaks to many people. The reception was overwhelming; it’s my biggest song in the commercial market, and I’m enjoying the love it’s receiving as well as my album.”

Meanwhile, R&B sensation Elaine, who has been nominated for Best R&B Song for “Love Me Slowly” from her debut album Stone Cold Heart, expressed her excitement at the recognition. “This nomination means so much to me, especially in this category, as an independent artist,” she told Sowetan S Magazine. “Not only is it a recognition of my hard work and artistry, but it’s also a testament of growth – more so in the R&B genre, which I’m so proud to be a part of.”

Elaine emphasised the deep personal connection she feels to the song, adding, “‘Love Me Slowly’ is not only the lead single on my debut album, Stone Cold Heart, it’s the soundtrack to my life. It feels amazing to know that my real-life experiences are ones that my fans in SA and all across the world can resonate with and celebrate.”

If she were to win, Elaine would dedicate the award to her parents, who have always been her biggest supporters. “I plan to deliver it to my parents’ home, as I do with all my awards. This award is not only mine but also for my team at Elaine Music. It’s a family thing,” she said.

Also making waves in the South African music scene, Black Motion is back on top after releasing their hit single “Takala Zwino” last April. The duo, now consisting of Smol (Roy Thabo Mabogwane) and new member Problem Child (Kabelo Koma), has been nominated for Best Duo/Group. This comes after the departure of co-founder Mörda (Bongani Mohosana), who left to pursue a solo career in 2022.

Smol shared his gratitude for the recognition, saying, “This means so much for us. The minute you get recognition from MetroFM, it means you’ve reached millions of South Africans. It also shows that Black Motion is and will continue to be relevant.” He added that a win would help them expand their fan base and demonstrate the duo’s ongoing impact on the music scene. “There is more music and albums to come; this is only the beginning. It would mean so much to us if we win the award.”

The 2025 MetroFM Music Awards will return for its third year at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on May 3, promising a night full of celebration, recognition, and unforgettable performances from some of South Africa’s brightest stars.
