After three months back in the music scene, Bucie has finally opened up about the real reasons behind her decision to step away from the spotlight in 2017. The beloved singer, who made a significant mark in the industry over a decade, surprised many when she took a break, citing a desire to focus on her family and the artists signed under her record label.
In a recent interview on Radio 2000, Bucie addressed the persistent rumours that her ex-husband was behind her decision to quit music. “People give my ex-husband way too much credit by saying he made me quit music. He didn’t,” she clarified. “It was time for me to take a break. I wanted to start a family, I wanted to have children, and I needed to be there for my children because I know how the industry is. I wanted to be present for my children, and I knew if I continued being in the industry, there was no way I was going to be that kind of mother to my children. And it was very necessary.”
Now back to what she calls her first “calling,” Bucie is on a mission to build her legacy and pave the way for other artists. Her latest single, “Faithful,” released on May 24, marks her exciting return to music, rekindling her collaboration with long-time producer Demor Sikhosana. “We’re staying true to our musical identities while also incorporating current sounds. This blend creates a unique and memorable experience for our listeners,” she told TshisaLIVE. “You can expect a sense of nostalgia as Demor and I have always had great working chemistry. I’m grateful to everyone who has listened to ‘Faithful’ and for the positive sentiments I’ve been receiving.”
During her hiatus, the 37-year-old star didn’t just focus on family life but also dedicated herself to growing her record label, Bucie Pty Ltd. “Music is my life, so it naturally takes up most of my time. However, I’ve also been focusing on my record label and planning to grow my business to support emerging artists. Additionally, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and exploring new creative ventures,” she shared.
When asked about the future of her record label and whether it will recruit new artists, Bucie remained optimistic yet grounded in her faith. “Only God knows what the future holds for me in the music scene. Throughout my journey, God has always been at the center of how I’ve moved, and I continue to pay Him honour for the gift of my voice and the healing it brings through music. As I navigate the path ahead, I trust in His guidance and remain grateful for the opportunities that lie ahead.”
Bucie’s return to music is not just a comeback; it’s a testament to her enduring passion and dedication to her craft. As she continues to build her legacy, fans can look forward to more heartfelt music and inspiring contributions to the industry.
