Vulindlela tells the powerful story of Brenda Fassie’s rise from humble beginnings to superstardom. Known for her fearless personality and bold artistry, Brenda broke barriers and inspired generations through her music and attitude. After facing some of the toughest challenges in her career, she made a historic comeback with her hit album Vulindlela—an anthem of resilience and triumph that continues to live on decades later.

The documentary goes beyond the music to explore the woman behind the fame. Through rare interviews, moving re-enactments, and dynamic performances, Vulindlela takes viewers on a journey through Brenda’s highs and lows, her creative partnerships, and her influence during one of South Africa’s most transformative eras.

In this emotionally charged portrayal, Brenda Ngxoli steps into the role of Brenda Fassie, perfectly capturing her vibrant personality and unfiltered energy. Joining her is Sphamandla Dhludlu, who plays the role of Chicco Twala, Fassie’s longtime collaborator and producer. Their performances add authenticity and emotion to the story, giving audiences a deeper look into the relationships that shaped Brenda’s career.

The series also features family, friends, collaborators, and biographers, who share intimate stories and memories of the superstar, offering a rare glimpse into her real life off stage.

Speaking about the production, Ofentse Thinane, Channel Head of SABC1, said: “The story and legacy of Brenda Fassie can never be forgotten. Brenda Fassie is a prime example of chasing your dreams and challenging the status quo. Challenging adversity and crafting your own path to success.”

Each episode of Vulindlela will air weekly, starting with Episode 1 on 15 November 2025, followed by Episode 2 on 22 November 2025, Episode 3 on 29 November 2025, and concluding with Episode 4 on 6 December 2025.

With Brenda Ngxoli stepping into the shoes of Brenda Fassie, Vulindlela promises to be a celebration of music, strength, and legacy — a must-watch tribute to the woman who redefined South African pop culture.
