Actress Brenda Ngxoli has been confirmed as part of the supporting cast in the upcoming South African romantic comedy A Scam Called Love, set to premiere nationwide on March 7, 2025. The news comes after Ngxoli made headlines for opening up about her struggles with homelessness and the emotional toll of keeping silent about her pain.

Earlier this year, Ngxoli shared a video on Instagram that revealed an argument with her mother and the hardships she faced. The video resonated with many, and soon after, digital creator Mandisi Tshingana launched a fundraising campaign, raising over R100,000 to support the actress. According to IOL, Ngxoli also landed a new hosting gig for the South African Traditional Leaders Awards (SATLA), and now she’s returning to the big screen with this highly anticipated film.

“A Scam Called Love” stars Didintle “Didi” Khunou as Zola, a determined chef striving to make it in the culinary world, and Tobi Bamtefa, a rising star from the UK, as Julian, a carefree line cook with a taste for adventure. The plot revolves around Zola and Julian entering a green-card marriage to solve their respective financial and immigration problems. However, the challenge of convincing government officials is easy compared to keeping up the lie in front of their own families.

The movie features a talented supporting cast, including Thando Thabethe, Lwazi Mthembu, Fezile Mpela, Rendani Mufamadi, and Trevor Gumbi, ensuring a well-rounded ensemble of South African screen talent. Directed and written by the creative husband-and-wife duo, Carla Fonseca Mokgata and Nthato Mokgata (better known as Spoek Mathambo), A Scam Called Love promises to blend humor, chaos, and a touch of South African style.

“We wanted to create a film that’s not just funny, but cleverly chaotic, deeply South African, and effortlessly stylish—one that celebrates love in all its messy, unpredictable glory,” said the Mokgatas about their vision for the film.

Fans can catch A Scam Called Love at Ster-Kinekor and Nu Metro cinemas across the country when it premieres on March 7, 2025. With a strong cast, an engaging storyline, and an undeniable sense of humour, the film is sure to be a hit.
