Actor Bonko Khoza, best known for his role as Mqhele Zulu on The Wife, has opened up about the powerful role his wife, Lesego Khoza, has played in his life — both personally and professionally. In a candid conversation on the Husbands Podcast, the 33-year-old actor got emotional as he praised his wife, who is also an actress and content creator.
Speaking with deep appreciation, Bonko shared how Lesego has been his constant support throughout the years, especially during the uncertain early stages of his life and career.
“My wife has been my safety, my home,” he said. “She is patient with me because, as much as it sounds pretty and everything now, you can’t imagine a 23-, 24-year-old trying to figure all of this out, and she was right there.”
The two met while studying drama and bonded over their shared passion for the arts. Their relationship, built on love, respect, and patience, has lasted over a decade. After dating for nearly eight years, the couple officially tied the knot in March 2021.
Bonko described Lesego as more than just his partner — she’s someone who has carried him spiritually and emotionally. “My wife is my sense of safety, she doesn’t want to say that she carries me but we carry each other,” he said.
He also revealed how her unwavering faith and prayers helped him navigate some of the darkest times in his life.
“It defined me. My wife was faithful for the both of us. She prayed for me when I was in the wilderness, she prayed for me and kept God in the space when I couldn’t recognise him yet or when I was out discovering whatever I needed to discover. So that when I finally do return, He’s still around — and that’s the one thing my wife has never been — shaky.”
Despite his growing popularity from his powerful performance in The Wife, Bonko remains humble. He shared that he doesn’t consider himself famous, but rather sees his work as being in the public eye.
“I don’t want to call it fame ‘cause I’m not famous. My work is out on public platforms, but like now, with that being… you are a public figure. You are in the public. People tend to think that is where you were born,” he explained.
Wrapping up the conversation, Bonko made it clear that Lesego is central to everything he has achieved. “I credit my wife for everything I have. She’s literally been… we are two wheels on a bicycle. Sometimes, she is the front, I’m the back. Other times, she’s the back, and I’m the front, but we paddle in parallel with each other’s lives. One is up, one is down.”
