Bongani Fassie Pays Tribute To Brenda Fassie On The Anniversary Of Her Death. The death of Brenda Fassie left a void in the music space and is seen as one of the many great losses in the music industry not only in South Africa but to the world.

Ma Brrr was referred to as the queen of African pop AKA the Madonna of the townships with her music breaking countless records and winning multiple awards including five SAMAs (South African Music Awards)

Her son, Bongani Fassie has been the core and consistent part of Brenda’s life. From a very young age and the idea of selflessness that she portrayed to the world, has always been instilled in him profoundly because of the late singer.

Bongani posted a tribute to his mother on twitter with a video of Ma Brrr’s classic song Ag Shame Lovey (Midodo do) in her youthful days with a caption honoring the day that his mother was laid to rest which was coincidentally the day before Mother’s Day.

“Today Mama Bear Was layed to rest. A day before Mother’s Day” he wrote.

After the news of Brenda’s death was announced her post-mortem report revealed that she had taken an overdose of cocaine on the night of her collapse, and this was the cause of her coma, she died aged 39 on 9 May 2004 at the Sunninghill Hospital.

South Africa also took to twitter to honor the memory of the late superstar and her musical legacy with touching messages of how her music will forever live on.
