Bongani Fassie officially steps into a new chapter with the announcement of his EP Skomline, a deeply personal and sonically fearless project marking his return to the spotlight.
Describing the body of work as “redemption, rebirth and realignment,” Fassie shares that his time away was intentionally spent healing, creating and preparing for this moment. “This project is me stepping fully into who I am without fear, limits, or permission. This is not just an EP it’s a statement,” he says.
Rooted in the raw, spiritual energy of Gqom, the EP pays homage to KwaZulu-Natal while honouring Cape Town’s cultural influence and Fassie’s own roots in Langa Township. Lead single Skomline stands as a hometown tribute, blending personal legacy with township pride. Expanding beyond genre boundaries, the project also reflects Fassie’s versatility, incorporating influences from Amapiano, Afro-Tech, Bacardi, Hip Hop and R&B.
A key collaborator on the EP is producer Dee Traits, whose sound helped shape the project’s darker, forward-thinking edge. “Working together was like a breath of fresh air. The chemistry was immediate, we vibed instantly, and the music just flowed,” says Dee Traits. “The sound we created together is like a dark, pulsating Gqom with futuristic twists.”
At its core, the EP is about legacy, collaboration and cultural elevation. “The silence was a strategy,” Fassie adds.
