Rapper and businesswoman Boity Thulo recently made an appearance on the “L-Tido” podcast, offering fans an intimate glimpse into her personal life and career. She opened up about misconceptions surrounding her low-key presence, her upbringing in Potchefstroom, and the deeply spiritual journey that shaped her.
When asked why she’s been keeping a low profile, Boity explained, “It’s not that I’ve been keeping a low profile, it’s just how things have been going and how they unfolded … It’s not like I’m trying to hide, I think I was just in a very calm, chilled era of my life.”
Boity reminisced about her childhood, recalling the profound impact her maternal grandparents had on her while growing up in Potchefstroom. Reflecting on her relationship with her father, she shared, “My parents split when I was about 3 or 4. My dad went on to have other kids. Most of the people from the hood know that dynamic of their dad not being around … I wanted to build a relationship with him for me.”
The rapper also discussed her spiritual calling, a topic she has openly shared with her followers. Boity described her awakening: “I would see things and the next thing they would be happening … A few years ago, I met a lady and we had such a candid and vivid conversation about the calling. When she explained what it is, in that moment, I said ‘that’s what I have.’”
This spiritual journey opened her up to a new realm. “It was the best thing that has happened to me,” she said, adding that while some might expect her to become a gobela (a traditional healer), that wasn’t her path. She believes she helped normalise discussions around spirituality, saying, “In some small way, I opened the space for people to feel more comfortable about talking about that journey.”
Despite her ancestral calling, Boity remains a devout Christian. “There’s God, then there are ancestors … It’s not like you can’t be a God-fearing person and still go practice ancestral duties,” she explained, clarifying that both worlds can co-exist.
Boity also revealed she had undergone breast reduction surgery, candidly addressing body image rumours. “I had my breasts done … There were reports that I had a BBL. I don’t need a BBL, I don’t want a BBL … If you have the means to make a change to your body, why wouldn’t you go and do it?”
On a personal note, Boity spoke about love and relationships, admitting, “I’m a massive caretaker and I’m willing to go to the ends of the earth for the person I love.” She enjoys cooking and creating a safe, nurturing environment for her partner.
As for her music career, Boity revealed she took a break to reignite her passion. “I wanted it to feel like a gift again … to invite God back into my career.” She’s now working on a new project and recently collaborated with Roiii on a song titled “OMG.”
Beyond music, Boity is focusing on her business, BT Signature, a sparkling fruit beverage line, and has been enjoying renovating her home. In a lighter moment, she also shared the story of how she once met Kim Kardashian.
Boity Thulo’s candid revelations remind us of her versatility—not just as a rapper and businesswoman, but as a person deeply rooted in both spirituality and self-expression.
