Last year, South African hip-hop sensation Blxckie set the music world abuzz when he posted a picture of himself in the studio with Canadian singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado in Los Angeles. Now, a year later, that exciting collaboration has come to fruition, as Blxckie is featured on Furtado’s new album “7,” appearing on the track titled “Crown.”
On “Crown,” Blxckie showcases his versatility, stepping beyond the bounds of hip-hop to explore the realms of Pop and R&B while still maintaining his distinctive style. His contribution to the track demonstrates his ability to transcend genres, proving that he is a force to be reckoned with in the global music scene.
“Being featured on Nelly Furtado’s album is incredible,” Blxckie shared with IOL. “She’s an icon, and getting the chance to work on ‘Crown’ with her shows that music has no boundaries.”
According to IOL, Blxckie’s journey in the music industry continues to gain momentum, as he not only collaborates with Grammy-winning artists but also earns recognition on the international stage. He has recently been nominated for a BET Hip-Hop Award in the Best International Flow category, alongside fellow South African artist Maglera Doe Boy. This marks his second nomination in this highly competitive category, where he stands shoulder to shoulder with artists from Nigeria, France, the UK, and Brazil.
“Super excited to be nominated for this award for the second time. I’ve been putting in a lot of work since the first one, so I’m glad to see it’s being recognized and that I’m moving in the right direction,” Blxckie said.
With his appearance on Furtado’s album and another prestigious award nomination, Blxckie is solidifying his status as one of the leading voices in global hip-hop.
