Black Twitter Calls Out Pearl Thusi For Claiming She Lost Jobs Because She’s Not Black Enough! Pearl Thusi has received some backlash on social media after revealing that she has lost some work because she wasn’t ‘dark enough’.
Speaking at the Next 100 Summit in Johannesburg on Thursday, Pearl said she felt held back by her own people because there’s so much competition and people want to succeed individually instead of as a collective.
“I lost a role ’cause I wasn’t black enough on Long Walk to Freedom, a very small role. I had it, and then two weeks before shooting I wasn’t dark enough. Uhm… I found out for a different role that I wasn’t dark enough for that too, so I wasn’t black enough.
“And, you know, those type of things hurt when you identify with being a black woman. If we work together as black women regardless of your shade, we can move forward much faster and a lot more powerfully,” she added.
Black twitter did not sympathize with Thusi, instead they called her out for not seeing her privilege. Others felt Pearl’s rising career has been because she is light skinned (the industry’s acceptable version of black).
Pearl Thusi complaining about how colorism affects her career yet she is light skinned is like me complaining about homophobia is affecting my daily life yet I am a heterosexual man???

Y’all seriously thought Pearl Thusi, a light-skinned and conventionally attractive biracial woman with a loose curl pattern, was the right person to speak about colorism? https://t.co/1uHqM7frqW

The problem with Pearl Thusi is she can only see the one job she lost coz of her color. But she doesn’t see the plenty of jobs she got because of her light skin that darkskinned womxn probably lost. I could name various historical instances of colorism against darkskinned people.

Pearl Thusi’s whole aesthetic is being lightskin and “having good hair for a black person”
pshht, anything she says about colorism is redundant.

Someone please tell Pearl Thusi that’s not how colorism works. Literally our tv Screens are full of Lightskin girls like that’s the measure of beauty for black women. She continues to benefit from her Lightskin if she was darker with 4d Hair type she wouldn’t have made it

Pearl Thusi sounds like white People complaining about reverse racism. Like guys we all know in the black community that Colorism is a thing and Lightskin people get certain privileges

Pearl Thusi’s light skinned chat is similar to skinny people complaining about how they don’t find clothes in stores either, honestly stfu, acknowledge your privilege and sit down.

Pearl Thusi has been crying about being a yellowbone for approximately 10 years. I’m at a stage now where I let her do her thing.

pearl thusi just doesn’t have the range for meaningful debate.
