The Black Coffee Foundation has successfully raised R3.1 million towards the launch of the Black Coffee Music Academy, a project aimed at empowering young musicians. The funds were secured during a glamorous black-tie gala dinner held at LUXX Venue Sandhurst, Johannesburg, in celebration of Black Coffee’s birthday.
According to TshisaLIVE , the exclusive event brought together some of South Africa’s biggest names, including ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula, Major League DJz, Oskido, Anatii, Blxckie, Siyabonga Ngwekazi, former Miss South Africa Dr Tamaryn Green, and Somizi Mhlongo. A highlight of the evening was a live auction hosted by Strauss & Co, featuring rare and exclusive pieces, which helped surpass the foundation’s fundraising goal.
The Black Coffee Music Academy aims to provide young artists with the skills and education needed to thrive in the global music industry. The academy will offer tertiary-level courses covering music production, the business of music, and other essential aspects of the industry.
“This initiative has been a dream of mine for a long time, and it’s truly incredible to see it finally come to life—starting with this very special evening, surrounded by people who believe in the power of music education,” Black Coffee said.
“I’ve always been committed to leaving the world a better place, and this academy is part of that vision. It’s about building an impactful legacy that will ensure South African and African music continues to take on the global stage. Education is the foundation of growth, and by investing in young minds, we are securing the future of our music and culture. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate my birthday.”
Lungie Maphumulo, CEO of the Black Coffee Foundation, expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support:
“We are absolutely thrilled with the generosity shown tonight. Raising R3.1 million means we can take the first steps in physically building the foundation of the Black Coffee Music Academy. This initiative is deeply personal to us because it allows the foundation to enrich the lives of young musicians who dream of becoming the next Black Coffee.
“We are committed to creating opportunities and shaping futures, and this is just the beginning. We are incredibly proud of the work the Black Coffee Foundation continues to do in communities across the country. Tonight was a testament to the power of collaboration, passion, and purpose. We are beyond excited to begin building the academy and to continue making a lasting difference in the lives of young artists.”
