Bishop Makamu Gets Arrested. After the investigation of his sexual assault charge, the law has caught up to Endless Hope Bible Church leader after reports have confirmed that Bishop Israel Makamu was indeed arrested earlier in the day yesterday. Phindi Mjonondwane of the National Prosecuting Authority Of South Africa (NPA) confirmed the news to the Daily Sun publication.
Mjonondwane confirmed that Makamu was taken into police custody for the sexual misconduct with a then 17 year old employee in 2018. The lady and her parents recently decided to seek justice and laid an assault charge against the Bishop at the Brackendowns Police Station. Phindi further revealed that Bishop appeared at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court when he was released on bail of R2000.
“The case relates to an incident that allegedly happened in his church office in Alrode during September 2018. “The Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court released Bishop Israel Makamu on R2000 bail following a brief appearance on a charge of sexual assault.”” she said.
Bishop Makamu recently appeared on an episode of AmaBishop in attempt to break his silence and clear his name over all allegations made against him. Israel denied accusations of asking the woman for sex, claiming that he was asking for his church office keys instead. According to the plaintiff, the Bishop tried to bribe the family with R1 million hush money, for them to make the recording go away but after failing to apologize, the family resorted in laying a case.
Makamu refuted the allegation, claiming that in 2018 he had not made a million yet and would not promise something that he would not be able to deliver. The drama is not about to end anytime soon for the bishop after an organisation called Kwanele Mfundisi which aims to seek justice against pastors who take advantage of church goers, revealed more sexually related claims against the Bishop made by other women.
The case has apparently been remanded for July 13th 2021 for further investigation.
