Controversial Bacardi artist Karabo Khakhu, better known as Jelly Babie, shocked fans when news broke that she is married at just 19 years old. Many of her supporters were left wondering who her husband is and whether he supports her bold and often provocative music career.
Speaking in a recent podcast interview on Freshmen magazine, the Mabopane-born hitmaker opened up about her marriage and how it has changed her life. Jelly Babie, who rose to fame with her hit track Jukulyn and through collaborations with the late Bacardi legend Vusi Ma R5, shared that marriage has brought a new sense of responsibility into her life.
“Marriage is different from a relationship because no matter what you do, no matter how angry you are, you always must go back home,” she explained. “Being married is like having a kid. You have to think about someone and also think for yourself. You have to make sure your partner has eaten or make sure you give them whatever they need.”
She said that one of the biggest lessons marriage has taught her is patience, especially during tough times with her partner. “It teaches you patience and how to deal with things you can’t change, but try and forgive them,” she added.
Despite her fast-paced lifestyle and music career, Jelly Babie said her husband fully supports her and knows what he signed up for. “My man knows she married an artist, and I can be whatever. Where there’s money there’s me, so he understands.”
She even revealed that he was very proud of her role in the TV show Adulting. “He kept asking when it’s going to air and was like, ‘That’s my wife,’” she said proudly.
Jelly Babie also shared how her husband cheers her on during her performances. “Whenever he’s around during my performances I get excited and go all out so he can remember who he had married.”
