Gqom sensation Babes Wodumo took the spotlight at the 30th annual South African Music Awards (SAMAs) over the weekend, not just for her electrifying performance of her hit song Wololo, but for her heartfelt tribute to her late husband, Mampintsha. Arriving at the Gallagher Convention Centre, Babes walked the red carpet in a striking white wedding gown, a gesture that had fans and media buzzing.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Babes shared the emotional story behind her choice, explaining, “The reason I wore the dress was to honour Mampintsha because he died when we were still due to have our white wedding. So when the Samas invited me, I thought of him and wore what I could have worn at the wedding.” She added wistfully, “I wish uMampintsha was here so he could walk the red carpet with me.”
According to TshisaLIVE , this touching tribute deeply moved fans, who expressed admiration for her strength and dedication. Babes and Mampintsha, a member of the renowned group Big Nuz, had their traditional wedding in April 2021, which was featured in their reality show, Uthando Lodumo. Their planned white wedding, however, was postponed due to Mampintsha’s sudden passing in December 2022.
Instead of the joyous celebration they had hoped for, Uthando Lodumo instead documented the painful reality of Mampintsha’s funeral.
