Former Real Housewives of Durban star Annie Mthembu has shared heartfelt words of support for her former cast mate Nonku Williams, who opened up about her personal struggles in the new Showmax series Untied. Annie, who appeared on the show from Season 1 to Season 3, used her Instagram Stories to show how proud she is of Nonku’s bravery.
“Thank you @nonku_williams for your honesty and vulnerability,” Annie wrote. “Your courage to share your truth will undoubtedly liberate many women who find themselves trapped in silence—burdened by shame, guilt, or the feeling of not being enough. Your story is deeply relatable, and I know it will resonate with countless women. Thank you for showing such grace and strength in bringing it to light.”
She also thanked the creators of the show, adding, “A heartfelt thank you as well to @showmaxonline for creating a platform that fosters open, necessary dialogue around abuse, divorce, and the complex realities behind them.”
Untied is a brand-new Showmax show that gives women a safe space to share their stories about divorce, abuse, and healing. It is hosted by award-winning media personality Relebogile Mabotja. The show kicked off with an emotional episode featuring Nonku Williams—known not only as a businesswoman and single mother, but also as a fan favorite from Real Housewives of Durban.
In the episode, Nonku opened up for the first time about her past, including her abusive marriage, her painful divorce, and her journey toward rediscovering herself.
Speaking to Showmax before the first episode aired on 24 June, Nonku explained why she decided to share her truth on such a public platform.
“I believe everything happens for a reason,” she said. “Every experience we go through has a purpose—not just for us, but for others who may find healing and hope in our stories. I felt it was time to share my story on Untied because I trust that God has a plan, and this moment is part of it. My hope is that my message will resonate with and bring healing to another woman who needs to hear it.”
Nonku admitted it wasn’t easy to talk about such a painful time in her life, but she believes that maturity and faith helped her speak up.
“Opening up about such a deeply personal chapter of my life wasn’t easy,” she said. “But I believe it comes with maturity and understanding that our experiences are meant to help others. Surrendering to God’s will gave me the purpose and fulfilment I needed to share my story, despite the challenges.”
She hopes viewers walk away with hope. “As I share my story on Untied, I hope viewers will take away the message that no matter what they’re facing, it’s not the end. It’s just a season, and with faith and perseverance, they can overcome it.”
