Anele Mdoda Not Impressed By The Wife’s ‘Naledi’ Casting. It seems Showmax’s hit show, ‘The Wife’ is making more headlines around it’s choices in cast members more than the storylines lately and some our local celebs who are fans of the show are chiming in sharing their unfiltered thoughts.
First it was Khanyi Mbau’s casting as lead in the second season of the show. Whilst fans of the show were not impressed, Khanyi’s acting skills won them over and she ended the season as a top favorite and made trends lists on social media every week thanks to those steamy scenes. Now it’s the casting of the Naledi character set to be portrayed by actress Gaisang K Noge. The question however is not around whether Gaisang can carry the character or not but what fans especially those who have read the book believe Naledi looks like.
Most fans of the show were expecting a plus size darker actress. One of those fans who expressed their disappointment on twitter when the news broke was media personality, Anele Mdoda who explained how the show missed an opportunity to show representation on screen. “Jokes aside. It would have been nice to cast a size 42 dark actress for the role of Naledi in THE WIFE. I won’t go into a thesis but when we speak of the success of THE WIFE, we attribute it to representation and authenticity and this was a good time to be led by that,” Anele tweeted.
When a tweep responded to Anele asking how sex scenes with a plus size actress would look like, Anele responded saying, “Exactly. You have been conditioned to think romantic liaisons on screen are only for slender people. That bigger people are not for lack of a better word deserving of affection. This is precisely why the author made Naledi a bigger lady. You know big people have sex in real life?”
