Acting is a profession that often comes with its fair share of highs and lows. Even the most talented performers experience periods of uncertainty and challenges when it comes to booking roles. Actress Candice Modiselle recently got candid about her personal journey, revealing that she hasn’t booked an acting gig in 2023.
In a video shared by YFM, Modiselle expressed her perspective on the situation, emphasizing the importance of seasons of growth, rest, and reflection in an actor’s career. Modiselle’s honesty in addressing her current situation sheds light on the reality that actors, no matter their skill level, face periods of limited work opportunities. In the video, she openly acknowledges that she has not worked as an actress for six months since the start of the year. However, she clarifies that this should not be perceived as a reflection of her craft.
“Dare I say, as an actress I have worked in six months. I audition religiously, I audition but I haven’t booked a job as an actress this year. I don’t see that as a reflection of my craft,” she said.
Instead of viewing the absence of acting gigs as a setback, Modiselle embraces the concept of seasons in life and the importance of being obedient to the messages they convey.
“I know that things come in seasons. Sometimes it’s my season to grow, it’s my season to rest, it’s my season to cultivate, to play, to explore. Whatever God is saying to me in that season I must be obedient. That’s also the important thing about having a place to call home. When you find yourself in a dry spell, eliminate the noise. We wanna do this [groove], distract ourselves but God wants to speak to you [but] you wanna do this [groove] the whole time.”
Modiselle’s transparency invites fellow actors to embrace the ebb and flow of their careers, knowing that periods of rest or exploration are just as crucial to personal growth as the times of bustling success.
