Wiseman Mncube , acclaimed actor and spiritual practitioner, unveiled profound insights into his journey as a sangoma during the fourth Ancestors Day celebration in Muldersdrift, West Rand. Delving into his spiritual calling, Wiseman shared his reverence for ancestral guidance and the transformative power of embracing his cultural heritage.
According to ZiMoja, Wiseman expressed deep gratitude towards his ancestors, acknowledging their pivotal role in shaping his path. He remarked, “If my ancestors had not been protecting and guiding me, I would not be here, alive on this earth.” This profound connection to his lineage fuels Wiseman’s commitment to respecting the sacredness of spiritual conversations, preferring to commune with his ancestors privately.
In an exclusive conversation with ZiMoja, Mncube opened up about his journey to accepting his calling as a sangoma. Recounting his initial reluctance and eventual acceptance, he shared, “I refused and ran from it but I eventually couldn’t run away from it and went for initiation.” The initiation process, known as thwasa, proved to be a profound turning point, leading Wiseman to embrace his ancestral calling wholeheartedly.
Despite his public persona as a celebrated actor, Mncube maintains a humble reverence for his spiritual journey. “Even playing the role of UShaka is not just a job—it’s because I am called to honour those people,” he emphasised. Wiseman’s unwavering dedication to honouring his ancestors extends beyond personal fulfilment, as evidenced by his contributions to his family and community.
In celebration of Ancestors Day, Wiseman joined fellow cultural custodians like Mpho Wa Badimo in Muldersdrift. Mpho Wa Badimo highlighted the importance of acknowledging ancestral roots, emphasising that “Ancestors day is not for a particular group of people but it is for us all.” This sentiment resonates deeply with Wiseman whose journey embodies a profound connection to his heritage and ancestral lineage.
Through their journeys of self-discovery and reverence for their ancestors, Wiseman and Mpho Wa Badimo inspires others to embrace their own cultural roots and honour the wisdom of those who came before them.
