Actor Makgotso M Calls for Industry Union Amidst Personal Journey

In  an exclusive interview with Sowetan.S.Mag, acclaimed actor Makgotso Monyemorathoe delves into the challenges and triumphs of her career, shedding light on the need for a union in the South African entertainment industry.

Expressing her deep-seated belief in the necessity of a union, Makgotso M emphasises the importance of addressing the grievances and needs of actors. “I believe the South African industry is desperately in need of a union where our grievances and needs are dealt with,” she asserts, advocating for a more regulated and fair environment.

Renowned for her diverse roles, from the role of  Tishiwe in “Is’thunzi” to the timid yet unpredictable Moipone Molopo in “The Girl from St. Agnes,” Makgotso M’s journey in the industry has been marked by both success and struggle. Recounting her post-“Is’thunzi” experience, she reveals the challenges she faced in securing acting gigs, leading her to temporarily relocate to England and later to America in pursuit of opportunities.

Despite the setbacks, Makgotso M remains resolute in her pursuit of excellence, drawing inspiration from her ultimate muse, Meryl Streep. “I want to be as versatile as I possibly can with my craft,” she declares, highlighting her commitment to portraying diverse characters and narratives.
