Popular actor Abdul Khoza from The Wife and Isibaya has taken to social media to say a heartfelt goodbye to the entertainment industry. Known for his powerful performances and captivating screen presence, Khoza shared a deeply emotional poem on Instagram, revealing his decision to step away from the spotlight.
In his touching message titled “Words of the Man on Top of the Hill,” Khoza expressed his feelings of exhaustion, loneliness, and the personal cost of fame. He began with a poetic reflection on his journey:
“Dear Entertainment Industry, you recall my name? I’m the one who once dazzled the masses with my talents. When boredom and despair threatened to consume them, I appeared on their screens, a beacon of hope in a custom-made suit.”
He continued to describe how his work once brought hope and joy to viewers, reminding them of their strength and dreams. “With every performance, I ignited a spark within them… They felt the thrill of goosebumps, and their spirits were lifted.” Khoza reflected on how his art inspired people, including a young boy who found hope through his music.
But despite his success, the actor revealed the emotional toll his career has taken on him. “They call me an actor, musician, painter, or writer, but I am simply an artist, driven by an insatiable passion… I’m a slave to the very craft that once set me free.” He shared the pain of feeling forgotten, alone, and emotionally drained, ending with the line, “The spotlight has faded, and I’m left with the echoes of my own voice.”
His farewell touched many in the industry, sparking a wave of support from fellow artists and fans.
Radio host Tbo Touch commented, “Reading this with mixed emotions cause this is coming from the exceptional talent of our generation… Be not weary in well doing Brother.”
Comedian Thenjiwe responded with strong words, “South Africa hates talent. They love mediocrity… You are in my prayers.”
Actor Lebohang Motaung also shared his thoughts, “Honest and true! Let’s go back to the floor and create!… If we don’t create, we die!”
