Hulisani Ravele Defends DJ Zinhle For Attending AKA’s Memorial Service. The way DJ Zinhle and her daughter’s father, AKA’s family have handled the past week has provided a discourse on twitter with critics questioning why the DJ attended her late baby daddy’s memorial service, whilst others feel that there are some traditions that need to be left behind.
947 radio host Hulisani Ravele weighed in on the topic on twitter responding to a twitter critic expressing their displeasure at DJ Zinhle not following tradition. Hulisani shared her thoughts on how she feels people often project and think the way they grew up and how they handle things is the way everyone should handle things. “They grew up in environments with constant fighting and dysfunction which became their norm, their benchmark. Anything that strays from that is wrong and beyond reach as it invalidates them and challenges the notion that things could be different if they were willing to heal and learn,” Hulisani wrote.
DJ Zinhle who shares a daughter with the late rapper, was in attendance at his memorial service to be there for their daughter–she was accompanied by her mother.
After the memorial service some twitter users expressed their displeasure at DJ Zinhle being there with her child, saying that there are some mourning cultural etiquette that were not being followed by her. The debate quickly spread like wildfire on Twitter timelines, with Hulisani and musician, actor Kabomo being some of the fierce celebs coming to her defence.
Hulisani also went on to share how she herself was brought up in an environment with certain social contructs but has chosen to live her life differently, she said: “And I say this as a person who grew up in such an environment but chose different and continues to choose different every day with every encounter. It’s too easy to blame the past than to name the pain, do the work and heal.”
