Thuso Mbedu Claps Back At ‘American Accent’ Criticism. ‘The Woman King’ star’s ‘American’ accent has been in question since she went international and whilst she has addressed it before, Thuso is not letting any critic have it when it comes to the topic.
Thuso has been doing her rounds of press tour around the world for her hit movie with Viola Davis, ‘The Woman King’. As she shares snippets of the press tour on social media, fans have been asking questions ranging from her chemistry with co-star John Boyega and her changing accent. One tweep commented on Thuso’s photos saying, “Reduce the American accent beautiful. Was watchin ur interview. Don’t lose the south ah accent.” Thuso didn’t waste time clapping back telling the tweep, “Don’t talk about things you know nothing about”.
This became a debate with some tweeps calling out the critic for looking for attention responding, “You want unnecessary attention. Stop it; you are too old for this. Thuso is doing well don’t drag her down your level, and beat her with experience.” Others agreed with the critic as one tweeted, “Our biggest problem as black south Africans is to believe we are better when we get accepted by Americans and we win their award. This is self-hate and inferiority complex syndrome. We can therefore never be competitive.“
Back in 2021, an unbothered Thuso took to TikTok addressing the same issue saying, “What you are hearing now it’s just habit that l have picked up ngoba ngihleli with a particular group of people for e certain period of time,” she said. She added that she was just practicing and it would be worse once she puts her practice into work. ”Bazonya nyi qhubekan,” she concluded.
