Bonko Khoza Reveals Why He Left “The Wife”. Bonko Khoza who played the role of Mqhele Zulu in the Showmax hit telenova series, ‘The Wife’ for its first two seasons was announced to not be returning to the show for its third season back in June and this was not because his character was played out.
When the news broke that Bonko would not be returning to the show, Bonko had this to say about his exit: “Having had the privilege to play Mqhele Zulu for two seasons, I realise I’ve taken the character as far as I can. I’m part of finding the perfect replacement and will be watching from the sidelines to support and offer advice where needed. I know that the actor who takes over will build from where I left off, so I’m looking forward to joining the 5am club to see how the incredible love stories between the brothers and their wives play out this season. It’s not often that a show this powerful comes into the world, so we should continue to champion and encourage the talented people who will take us forward in S3.”
But now the actor is revealing the real reason behind his decision to leave the show. He addressed the matter suring a LIVE session on social media in which he sited anxiety as the main reason.
“It gave me a lot of anxiety, you know so when we took a break l decided to carry on kind of easing myself into kind of just getting back to myself,” he said.
Bonko was replaced by Wiseman Mncube, a decision well received by fans of the show. “…but Wiseman is a beast,” Bonko went on to cosign Mncube adding, “…but it’s gonna be good and it’s gonna be proper.”
