South Ah and the rest of the world woke up to unexpected and seemingly too soon news that Trevor Noah will be leaving the late night show that has made him a global superstar, comedy rockstar and multimillionaire… in US dollars might we add. The South African born comedian announced the news himself during the latest episode of ‘The Daily Show’ which he has been hosting for the past seven years since taking over from Jon Stewart in 2015.
“After the seven years, my time is up but in the most beautiful way. I’ve loved hosting the show, it’s been one of my greatest challenges, it’s been one of my greatest joys,” Trevor said.
“I remember when we first started… so many people didn’t believed in us. Appointing me as host was a crazy bet to make. I still think it was a crazy choice, this random African. It’s been absolutely amazing. It’s something that I never expected,” Noah added.
“I realised there’s another part of my life that I want to carry on exploring. I miss learning other languages, I miss going to other countries and putting on shows. I miss just being everywhere and doing everything,” Trevor hinted in what he’s up to next.
“We are grateful to Trevor for our amazing partnership over the past seven years. With no timetable for his departure, we’re working together on next steps. As we look ahead, we’re excited for the next chapter in the 25+ year history of ‘The Daily Show’ as it continues to redefine culture through sharp and hilarious social commentary, helping audiences make sense of the world around them,” the Network on which The Daily Show aired on said in a statement.
On the same night he made the announcement, Trevor was spotted kissing singer Dua Lipa in New York from what looked like a dinner date. This comes after his breakup with actress Minka Kelly a few months ago.
